Progression Of Dementia

D ementia occurs with changes in the brain called neurodegeneration (degeneration of the building blocks of the brain). Dementia is a progressive disease meaning that as the neurodegeneration spreads in the brain, symptoms worsen and new symptoms appear. This explains why many types of dementia have similar symptoms. However, each type of dementia has a different general progression of symptoms. The speed of progression varies depending on the type of dementia. The speed and progression also vary from person to person.
