Marketing and Communications Coordinator

POSITION: Marketing and Communications Coordinator

STATUS: Fulltime (37.5 hours per week)

REPORTS TO: Director of Development and Education

Environment: Hybrid

The Dementia Society is funded in part by the Ontario Ministry of Health to provide support to those impacted by dementia in Ottawa and Renfrew County. We also fundraise to offer at no cost, a wide range of educational, support and social-recreational programs for people living with dementia, their care partners and families. Come join our mission! Reporting to the Director of Development and Education, and working collaboratively as a member of the Development and Education team, the Marketing and Communications Coordinator develops and executes strategies, plans and tactics to increase awareness of the Society, our brand, programs and services, and to raise funds to increase our financial sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and execute an annual operational plan

• Develop and maintain campaign and tactical work-plans and marketing briefs to achieve strategic and tactical results

• Gather and report on metrics, analytics and results

• Execute on plans to disseminate messages and materials

• Action a multi-year communications and marketing plan

• Provide communications and marketing expertise to the organization to achieve organizational goals

• Work with/manage external contractors as required

• Participate in Board of Directors’ Fund Development and Communications subcommittee, as required

• Support the Director of Development and Education in strategic projects Brand & Reputation Management

• Ensure marketing and communications content, tone and initiatives are consistent with organizational goals and values

• Safeguard the Dementia Society reputation and brand across all platforms

• Steward the Dementia Society brand, educate staff and partners about use, and ensure consistency across all platforms Content Creation

• Develop and produce professional-quality bilingual (E/Fr) marketing and communications content and products for multiple media (i.e. copy, video, graphics) and formats (i.e. print, Web, Social, etc.)

• Serve as Dementia Society story developer and archivist creating powerful client testimonials; interacting with clients; obtaining and managing appropriate consents.

• Proofread, edit and coordinate translation of content

• Manage creation and distribution of communication products, manage inventory and distribution of materials to staff and partner network • Ensure a well-organized content library is maintained and used Web Site Management

• Oversee the enhancement and maintenance of The Dementia Society’s bilingual Website (DementiaHelp.ca) and ensure consistency with organizational values of excellence, courage, compassion and inclusion

• Monitor and report on website performance (Google Analytics) and identify opportunities to enhance activity

• Manage and optimize Google Ad Grant Social Media Management

• Manage an active and professional presence on Dementia Society social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn)

• Maintain and develop social media calendar

• Monitor trends, track and analyze social media metrics and recommend actions to enhance performance

• Develop and produce regular organizational newsletters

• Analyze and report on email performance, identify opportunities to enhance performance

• Foster proactive media relations – print/television/radio to nurture interest in Dementia Society news, maintain database of media contacts. Other duties as assigned

Work Environment

This position is a hybrid of in-office and work-from-home schedule. Hours are generally 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. including 30 minutes for lunch and the possibility of some work after hours as needed for time-sensitive initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

• University, college education in communications, marketing, public relations or a related field

• 2-5 years related experience

• Proven ability to develop and execute marketing and communication programs

• Understanding of a not-for-profit environment considered an asset

• Bilingualism required: Excellent oral and written communication skills in one official language, and strong working knowledge of the other

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Able to work independently and contribute to a positive team environment

• Proficiency/experience in the following software applications: Microsoft Office, including MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint, or similar; Word Press Website development software; Desktop or Web publishing applications like Adobe Creative Suite, Canva; Asana or similar project management software; HootSuite social media management tool; Social media applications Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn; Google Analytics

• Strong attention to detail

• Impeccable editing and proofing skills

• Media relations training/experience an asset

• Ability to work to deadlines and manage multiple tasks

• Flexible, a good sense of humour is valued!
