Musical Connections with Anne and the Joyful Sound Choir

About This Program

Experience the joy and the power of music! Joyful Sound Choir is an intergenerational, community choir for people with memory loss and their caregivers, as well as family and friends. Weekly rehearsals foster community, cognitive function and socialization. In addition to singing together, rehearsals also provide a time of getting to know each other. Each season ends with a short concert for family members, friends and community.

We ask that participants commit to attending on a weekly basis.

This program is intended for someone living with dementia and their caregiver, family member or friend.

No training or musical background is required.

Please join us for the the end of season performance that will be held at the St. Stephen’s Anglican Church May 4th at 11:00am.

About Anne Longworth

Anne’s career, which has spanned over 40 years, has been primarily in church music, playing organ and keyboard and directing choirs. She began Joyful Sound Ottawa, an intergenerational choir for those with memory loss, their caregivers and friends in 2020. Anne is passionate about helping others with memory loss develop a better quality of life. Over the past few years, whether online or in-person, Anne has been building a strong community through the JSO choir.

In-person Event
The Daisy Café is a weekly program for people living with dementia taking place on Wednesdays from 1:00pm – 3:00pm at the Nick Smith Centre in Arnprior. The program has a variety of planned activities or performances each week. We hope to provide a space for participants to express themselves creatively and to socialize with other attendees and volunteers. Care partners are welcome to leave during this time to take some moments to themselves.

Join us in-person at the Dementia Society Centre on the last Tuesday of the month to participate in Turquoise Live with Sid and Chris.  Our animated and energetic group leaders, Chris White and Sid Ameen, engage participants using rhythm, song, gesture, dance, and humour in the spirit of friendship and fun.

Arts and Minds Creative Crafts and Cards is a weekly program hosted by an instructor that guides caregivers and the peson they are caring for through themed card making. The instructor curates packages based on holidays and season that get delviered staight to the door of those registered.

This Art Work-Shop provide a space for participants to express themselves creatively and to socialize with other attendees and volunteers. No prior arts experience required. Materials and instruction are provided, all you have to do is register.
