Arts and Minds – Pet Protrait and Collage

About This Program

Join The Dementia Society and artist Janet Slavin on a furry tale! Not sure this makes sense – maybe “to immortalize your favourite fur friends!” The pet portrait and collage workshop will demonstrate simplified drawing techniques and accessible collage techniques to create fun and lively portraits of your pets, favourite animal or furry friends. This is a three-session guided workshop.

Session 1:Transferring animal images onto cards and cutting a template to choose collage papers.

Session 2: Decide the colour scheme for the collage and paint various patterns and colours on different papers to use in the final collage.

Session 3: Creating a collage portrait and putting it on a coloured background. Some finishing touches and voila! The pet collage is ready to be framed.

Material Required: Please bring 8.5’ x 11’ printouts of animal photos for the collage. (More photos to choose from would be good). We will be drawing on top of the printouts.

Please Note:

  • Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty
  • Participants will be asked to bring some objects from home to use during the painting session
