Understanding Mild Cognitive Impairment

About This Program

This education session is intended for people who are experiencing Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), their close family members/friends and people experience decline in memory. MCI involves memory loss that is greater than expected for one’s age but not enough to compromise one’s ability to carry out daily activities. In this session you will learn about MCI, its types and diagnosis, the difference between MCI, normal forgetfulness and dementia and the methods to optimize cognitive health through lifestyle choices and social support. The webinar will end with a special QnA session with our host to answer all your dementia and brain health related questions.

About German Chique-Alfonzo

German is currently the Education and Program Coordinator for the Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County. He is also an active host for various Dementia Education events hosted by The Dementia Society. He also coordinates and liaises with Dementia Researchers for future collaborations. German finished his Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from the University of Ottawa and has an M.D. from the Oriente University, Venezuela. After his residency in Neurology at the Central University of Venezuela, with a subspecialty fellowship in Multiple Sclerosis and Demyelinating Diseases at La Trinidad Teaching Medical Centre, Venezuela; German is currently, enrolled as a Master of Health Professions Education candidate at Queen’s University. Through his education, experience and research, German has gained knowledge and has hosted events on topics related to dementia and its progression, dementia prevention, brain health and wellness and has helped caregivers by providing practical tips.
