The Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County (DSORC) is a not-for-profit charitable organization that was founded in 1980. DSORC helps people in Ottawa and Renfrew County impacted by dementia by providing guidance and support, social programs and peer engagement, education, and information and resources to more than 5,000 people each year within the geographic area of the City of Ottawa and Renfrew County.
Job Summary
The FRM is responsible for the preparation and distribution of various financial statements to internal and external stakeholders, maintenance of the organization’s general ledger, and ensuring that all transactions and documentation comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The FRM provides leadership and is accountable for financial planning and forecasting, budgeting, reporting and analysis, and for efficient and effective financial management activities including payroll, banking and compliance.
The Finance Manager is an experienced accountant with knowledge of not for profit accounting principles and reporting requirements. Reporting to the Director of Operations, and working closely with the Board’s Finance Committee and Senior Leadership Team (SLT), the Finance Manager develops, executes and oversees all aspects of accounting and financial reporting, providing leadership and guidance to ensure accurate and timely statements and evidence-based decisions.
Quantitative and analytical, the FRM is detail-oriented and ensures that financial data is current and accurate. The FRM also has excellent oral and written communication skills and is able to effectively convey information to different groups as well as to develop reports. The Financial Reporting Manager is able to manage many different priorities at once, meeting frequent deadlines, and is able to adjust to changing organizational and stakeholder requirements The Manager brings credibility, energy, organization and efficiency to this portfolio including detailed analyses, forecasting, and recommendations. The FRM works closely with and supervises the Finance Coordinator.
Responsibilities:
Prepare Reports and Financial Statements
The Financial and Reporting Manager facilitates the entire process of preparing important reports and statements by gathering and documenting data and reviewing reports for regulatory compliance. The FRM standardizes the reporting process while also working to improve and streamline it. The FRM prepares and reviews all statements and filings.
Ensure Regulatory Compliance and Effective and Efficient Financial Management
Highly knowledgeable in financial reporting procedures, federal and local laws and regulations and organizational policies, the FRM ensures that the entire company is compliant and successfully passes annual external audits. Should any non-compliance issues surface, the FRM assesses and resolves these issues.
Oversee Accounting and Payroll Activities
Working very closely with the Finance Coordinator, oversees all accounting and payroll activity, ensuring compliance and resolving any reporting errors or discrepancies.

Advise Management
The FRM supports the SLT in strategic decisions by reporting and advising on DSORC finances.
