Everyone! Dementia Friendly is open to anyone who wants to help people with dementia in their community.
“The Dementia Society has been an incredible resource to our OC Transpo outreach staff in providing training and awareness about the importance of understanding the impact of dementia in our community. Through the efforts of the Dementia Society, we have been able to equip a number of our staff with knowledge that allows them to identify and work with customers who may need their greater understanding. We are fortunate to have their services available to us.”

MAKE YOUR ORGANIZATION DEMENTIA FRIENDLYThe Dementia Society is embarking on a journey to change people’s perceptions of dementia. We aim to transform the way our region thinks, acts and talks about dementia through our Dementia Friendly training. Dementia Friendly training is about learning more about dementia and the small ways you can help.
By being Dementia Friendly, you will be joining a network of individuals, organizations, communities seeking to ensure that our region is equipped to support people living with dementia and their caregivers. Dementia Friendly communities fosters the ability of people living with dementia to remain in the community, be engaged and continue to thrive. Dementia Friendly is being informed, safe and respectful of individuals with dementia, their families and caregivers and providing supportive options that foster quality of life.
People living with dementia can experience their world as confusing, disorienting and, at worst, even disabling. A well set up or designed environment can help maintain abilities and support meaningful engagement by providing prompts, accessibility and reducing risk.
To help become Dementia Friendly, reach out today and join the journey with The Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County in creating a Dementia Friendly region.
