About This Program

This webinar explores the experiences of people living with dementia and their travel companions when travelling by air. It covers who is travelling, the reasons for travel, and the challenges faced by people living with dementia and their care partners during air travel. Helpful advice will be shared to support people living with dementia in preparing for and planning air travel, helping make the journey smoother and less stressful.

The session will also highlight the experiences of service providers when supporting travellers with lived experience of dementia and discuss important research aimed at improving air travel for people living with dementia and their travel companions.

About Valentina Primossi

Valentina Primossi is a PhD candidate in Digital Transformation and Innovation and a member of the LIFE Research Institute at the University of Ottawa, and a Full-Time Lecturer at Concordia University. She specializes in consumer experience and service marketing, focusing her research on shedding light on the overlooked marketplace experiences of marginalized populations, particularly enhancing air travel experiences for disadvantaged and marginalized consumers, especially people living with dementia and their travel companions. She employs innovative qualitative methods, including netnography, to explore consumer experiences shared in online communities. Committed to bridging theory and practice, she collaborates with a wide range of stakeholders to support meaningful, real-world impact.

About Ali Chiarelli

Ali Chiarelli is a PhD candidate in Population Health and a member of the LIFE Research Institute at the University of Ottawa. She completed her Master of Science in Aging & Health through Queen’s University. Since her undergraduate studies, Ali has gained experience supporting people living with dementia across diverse settings, including

retirement homes, home care, and her current role as an Adult Day Program coordinator. Her research focuses on understanding the air travel experiences of people living with dementia and their care partners, with the goal of developing practical recommendations that enhance quality of life and shift the focus from care to life. Ali is committed to fostering age-inclusive communities and advocating for the unique needs of older adults, especially those with lived experience of dementia.
