Supporting Dementia Series – Kanata

About This Program

Supporting Dementia is a two-part series designed for care partners looking to enhance their knowledge of dementia and the skills needed to support the changing needs of someone who is living with dementia.  Participants will also have the opportunity to share their feelings and experiences in a safe environment.

Part One will provide an overview of dementia, the range of diseases it encompasses, and the symptoms associated. It will explore the different stages of dementia and discuss effective communication techniques.

Part Two will focus on the challenges faced by those living with dementia and how to identify their unmet needs and behaviours that arise. It will introduce the “ABC” method and how to apply it when supporting these behaviours, as well as highlighting other resources in the community.
