Musical Connections – Arabian Tunes

About This Program

Music can be very effective. Studies have shown that music can positively impact people with dementia lifiting their spirit and imacting their behaviour, they may be able to tap a beat or sing lyrics to a song from their youth or childhood.

Arabian Tunes Music Leader Sam Himmat along with his singing partner conduct two-hour biweekly sessions in which they perform a wide variety of old and new popular Arabic songs from all around the Arab countries.

Participants will enjoy the social interaction in a friendly and homely atmosphere, as well as listening and singing along with the song lyrics provided so they can follow along through music.

The Musical Connections series provides an opportunity for people living with dementia and their friends and family to experience a live, in-person or virtual musical performances.

In-person Event
The Daisy Café is a weekly program for people living with dementia taking place on Wednesdays from 1:00pm – 3:00pm at the Nick Smith Centre in Arnprior. The program has a variety of planned activities or performances each week. We hope to provide a space for participants to express themselves creatively and to socialize with other attendees and volunteers. Care partners are welcome to leave during this time to take some moments to themselves.

Experience the joy and the power of music. Joyful Sound Ottawa is an intergenerational community choir for people with memory loss, their caregivers, and friends. Participants will form a choir and sing along with their peers resulting in a performance at the end of the series.

Arts and Minds Creative Crafts and Cards is a weekly program hosted by an instructor that guides caregivers and the peson they are caring for through themed card making. The instructor curates packages based on holidays and season that get delviered staight to the door of those registered.

This Art Work-Shop provide a space for participants to express themselves creatively and to socialize with other attendees and volunteers. No prior arts experience required. Materials and instruction are provided, all you have to do is register.
