Part Two: Implementing Your Strategic Plan, Training

Creating and Sustaining E-Modules

We used an online course-building platform, Thinkific, to adapt our in-person training presentations virtually and on demand. We included knowledge testing questions, and a participation certificate after completing the training. We created nine e-modules catering to different audiences, including three University of Ottawa mini-labs.

The following Dementia Inclusive Training courses were published on Thinkific:

  • First Responders
  • General Public
  • Businesses
  • Students
  • Healthcare Professionals
  • French modules include; Le public général, Intervenants de première ligne, Professionnels de la santé
  • Mandarin General Public module; 面向公众的模块

How-To

Here is a step-by-step process for creating and sustaining e-modules.

Step 1
Research online learning platforms.
Step 2
Have a dedicated team member learn the platform’s backend.
Step 3
Create/adapt your training presentation.
Step 4
Develop knowledge testing questions and create a virtual training certificate.
Step 5
Have dedicated team members record presentations.
Step 6
Have the presentation reviewed by the team, edit as needed, and have a tester pilot the module.
Step 7
Publish and promote e-modules.

As with any new project and process, there are unforeseen challenges. We aim to share the challenges we met and the lessons we learned as a result.

Tips

  • Have the marketing team (internal or external) promote e-modules; it’s best to have a dedicated training webpage where users can select training mode (e-module, in-person, virtual (live), or custom)
  • A great editing tool: DaVinci Resolve 18 (free).
