Long-term or ongoing volunteer opportunities are ideal for those interested in becoming part of a community committed to raising awareness about dementia and improving the quality of life for people living with dementia and their caregiver, but we also have opportunities for those who prefer a short-term time commitment.
Volunteers in ongoing roles with the Dementia Society are active representatives in the community, offering their talents and expertise to deliver presentations, facilitate support groups, and provide direct support to DSORC’s educational and social programming. Below are some areas where you may wish to get involved.

Make a Connection, Take a Break
The Dementia Society is pleased to be offering virtual, remote, and socially distanced solutions in an effort to continue providing support to caregivers and persons living with dementia while we are not able to do so in a pre-COVID-19 model.
Volunteers play a crucial role in this program, from providing meaningful social interactions to persons living with dementia, to facilitating a break for caregivers. Visits are virtual or by telephone, and we are exploring safe socially distanced visits as well. As a volunteer, you receive training and guidance to prepare for this important role and are matched with a client based on aligning schedules, language, and interests. Visits are typically 20 minutes to 1 hour on a weekly basis, and are on a variety of platforms such as the phone or Zoom, depending on the client’s preference and capabilities. The activities that make up these visits can vary, from simply chatting, listening to music, reading out loud, or sharing photos as examples. Whichever the activity, you will find this to be a rewarding and meaningful experience.
We’re looking for passionate volunteers who can commit to this program for a minimum of six months with these qualifications and skills:
If you’re interested, we’d love to hear from you! Please submit an application using the form below, or contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions about this opportunity.
